I built ASCII Studio because I wanted a tool that felt fun to use.
Not a platform. Not a workflow solution. Not an AI-powered productivity ecosystem.
Just a tool.
I've always liked ASCII art. There's something oddly satisfying about turning images and videos into nothing but characters and watching recognizable shapes emerge from text. It feels equal parts art, code, and happy accident.
This project started because I wanted to play around with that idea. One feature led to another, and before long I had spent way more time on it than originally planned.
Along the way I noticed something.
A lot of simple tools don't feel simple anymore.
You find something that looks useful and immediately run into account creation, subscription plans, onboarding flows, usage limits, upgrade prompts, and emails asking you to come back. Sometimes that's completely reasonable—software takes work to build and maintain, and people deserve to get paid for that work.
But sometimes you just want a tool.
Open it. Use it. Save your file. Move on with your day.
I miss those little corners of the internet built by people who cared about a specific problem and decided to solve it. No grand vision. No growth hacks. Just something useful that existed because someone thought it should.
That's what I wanted ASCII Studio to be.
Everything runs in your browser. No downloads. No account required. No paywall waiting around the corner.
Just open it and start experimenting.
Make something weird. Make something beautiful. Turn your webcam into a wall of text. Export a GIF you'll probably never use for anything. Have fun with it.
And if you end up creating something interesting, then this project has done exactly what it was supposed to do.
This is also probably not the last tool I'll build.
I have a growing list of small ideas, creative experiments, and niche utilities that I want to put out into the world. Some of them will be useful. Some of them will be strange. Hopefully a few will be both.
For now, though, here's ASCII Studio.

1. Input Source: Select between your webcam, an uploaded image, or a video file to act as the base layer from the left sidebar.
2. Style & Effects: Browse through the left sidebar to select different ASCII generation algorithms (Classic, Matrix, CRT, etc.).
3. Tweak Parameters: Use the right sidebar to adjust character density, inversion, font size, and color thresholds until you get the perfect look.
4. Compose Mode: Layer multiple inputs together! Combine a webcam feed with an image overlay for complex compositions.
5. Export: Save your creation as a high-quality PNG, an animated GIF, a raw Text file, or even an MP4 video using our built-in browser engine.
